Smart Cooperation Strategy for the Cross-border Minho/Miño River

Smart_Minho is a project in which the Deputación de Pontevedra (main beneficiary), the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho, the Fundação Centro de Estudos Euro-Regionais, and the EGTC Rio Minho are partners, seeks to establish the path for cross-border cooperation in the Minho/Miñ River during the coming decades.

The main objective of Smart Minho is to improve the effectiveness of institutional cooperation in the cross-border area of the Minho/Miño River through the strategic planning of the common territory, based on experiences of local cooperation, and that serve to initiate pilot experiences of team management, cultural and cultural activities. transport that favors cross-border mobility.

OBJECTIVES

  • Conserve and enhance the existing resources between the two banks of the Minho/Miño for the benefit of social, economic and environmental development in the Baixo and Alto Minho/Miño area;
  • Enhance sustainable mobility and accessibility as the central axis of the development of the territory, not only in relation to public transport, but also in relation to pedestrian mobility and other non-motorized alternative means of transport that allow reducing energy expenditure and gas emissions causing greenhouse effect;
  • Improve the internal connection between the direct urban centers of Caminha-A Guarda, Vila Nova de Cerveira-Tomiño, Valença-Tui, Monção-Salvaterra, Melgaço-Arbo, as well as the connection with the rest of the territory and the metropolitan areas of Vigo, Porto and Braga;
  • Promote the joint management of existing equipment, infrastructure and services and jointly planning future needs with the aim of sharing their use to improve services to citizens, optimizing resources and promoting coexistence;
  • Modernize infrastructure with the aim of promoting energy savings and sustainable mobility;
  • Promote the rural environment as a complement to the urban environment and an element that creates sustainable employment;
  • Fully protect and promote the river space;
  • Foster business cooperation and boost research activities.
