03 Jul “Vive o Rio Minho ao Máximo” programme launches its first nautical experiences on the Minho River
The first boat trips mark the beginning of a summer dedicated to discovering the territory from the water.
The “Vive o Rio Minho ao Máximo” programme, promoted by AECT Rio Minho within the VISIT_RIO_MINHO_PLUS project, officially launched its activity programme on 29 June with its first nautical experience, inviting participants to discover the river from a new perspective.
The first activity consisted of a guided boat tour along the middle section of the Minho River. Throughout the journey, participants had the opportunity to experience the outstanding natural landscapes, environmental value and cultural heritage of this cross-border area while enjoying a safe, accessible and nature-based experience.
This first activity marks the beginning of a summer programme featuring 26 nautical experiences across different locations along the Minho River territory. Overall, the programme will provide 300 places, including 100 reserved for tourism professionals and 200 for the general public. The initiative aims to bring both residents and visitors closer to the river, promoting new ways to experience it while enhancing its value as a destination for active tourism, nature and leisure.
Beyond its recreational dimension, the programme contributes to the promotion of the shared natural and cultural heritage, encouraging a stronger connection with the river and reinforcing the identity of the cross-border territory. At the same time, it supports local businesses by promoting the work of nautical operators and fostering a sustainable tourism model based on cooperation between Galicia and Northern Portugal.
The activities are part of the VISIT_RIO_MINHO_PLUS project, co-funded by the Interreg VI-A Spain–Portugal (POCTEP) 2021–2027 Programme, which aims to establish the Minho River as a leading tourism destination through the development of an innovative, integrated and sustainable portfolio of nautical experiences.
The “Vive o Rio Minho ao Máximo” programme will continue throughout the coming months with new experiences for different audiences, allowing participants to keep discovering the Minho River from the water while strengthening its position as one of the eurorregion’s main natural, tourism and cultural assets.
