The minhoto group will work hand to hand with entities from Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil or the Rhine, sharing experiences of environmental sustainability and prevention of risks linked to climate change

The EGTC Rio Minho has just signed in Uruguay the ‘Declaration of Montevideo’, the formalization document of the Network of Cross-border Euro-Latin American River Basins, an international entity that aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and promote cooperation and share experiences and knowledge in matters of water resources, environmental sustainability and risks linked to climate change, among others.

The director of the EGTC Rio Minho, Uxío Benítez, was a ‘witness’ of the signing of the Montevideo Declaration ‘online’ alongside Xabier Macías, who traveled to Paysandú throughout last week. For the representative, the positioning of the Minhoto group in a network of these characteristics is fundamental, since it strengthens inter-institutional and intergovernmental relations with entities of much larger entities and budgets, such as those of the Rhine basins, the Uruguay river, Lake Titicaca and those shared by Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.

During the meeting to formalize the network, the representative of the EGTC Rio Minho explained to an audience of more than 150 people the particularities of the Minho group’s strategic planning, the work that is done with the Eurocities, the promotion of tourism and the need to move forward in shared environmental protection.

From the EGTC Rio Minho, the advanced management experience of the Rhine, shared between several European states (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands) was also attended with interest; that of the Administrative Commission of the Uruguay River (CARU), the host entity that manages the navigability and international bridges of the Uruguay River; as well as the presentation of the Biological Corridor project on the triple border that will be visited today in the vicinity of Barra do Quaraí.

Agreements were also signed with the Trinational Committee (of Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil) bilaterally with the Eurocities, as well as with the International Community of Lake Titicaca. There was also a reception by the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou.
