
21 Jul Melgaço hosts the congress “Rio Minho: The green cross-border corridor” on July 28
The event, in which the EGTC Rio Minho collaborates, is free and open to participation, with mandatory registration until July 21
The EGTC Rio Minho collaborates with the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho and the Deputation of Pontevedra in the organization of the congress “Rio Minho: The green cross-border corridor” that will be celebrate (held) on July 28. The event, that will take place at Fonte das Termas of Melgaço, from nine in the morning, will focus on the Rio Minho, on the European projects developed in the evaluation of the benefits of these projects for the region and in the evaluation for the future, and will bring together speakers from different institutions from Galicia and Portugal, which will delve into these topics.
The morning will begin with two panels: one around the topic “The green corridor: anticipate and propose”, dedicated to the debate on the importance of cross-border cooperation and the management of water resources, by Miguel Santos, from the FCUP – Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto / CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Marine and Environmental Research Center (University of Porto), and by Sérgio Bruno Costa, from SIMBIENTE – Engineering and Environmental Management, Lda., respectively. The second panel will talk about the topic “The green corridor: knowing and valuing”, in which works will be presented on the natural resources of the Rio Minho, their conservation, exploitation and valorization, by Fernando Cobo, from the University of Santiago de Compostela, and Elvira Abollo, from the Marine Research Institute (IIM, CSIC).
In the afternoon, we will have a panel on the topic “The green corridor: from local thinking to strategy”, in which Yorgos Stratoudakis, from the IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere), will discuss the present and future of fishing in the Rio Minho; and Valerià Paül Carril, from the University of Santiago de Compostela, will adress the “Rio Minho 2030 Strategy”. This panel will have the Association of Professionals of Rio Minho and Sea Fishing, represented by Augusto Porto, and Pesqueiras, the Association of Fishermen of Rio Minho, represented by Venâncio Fernandes. At the end, there will be a round of debate and conclusions by Carlos Antunes, from the Aquamuseu from the Rio Minho.
The event ends with a visit to the fishing grounds of the Rio Minho guided by Álvaro Campero, from the Fernando Pessoa University Research Center. This congress is part of the project VIVE_RIO_MINHO, co-financed by POCTEP, which aims to promote the cross-border territory of the Rio Minho as a sustainable destination.
