10 Jul EGTC Rio Minho presents new experiences to discover the cross-border territory – “One River, Two Countries, Ten Experiences”
The programme “One River, Two Countries, Ten Experiences” was presented this Friday in Salvaterra de Miño as part of the VISIT_RIO_MINHO_PLUS project
EGTC Rio Minho today presented the programme “One River, Two Countries, Ten Experiences” at Casa do Conde, in Salvaterra de Miño Castle. The initiative invites residents and visitors to discover the cross-border territory through its nature, history, heritage and landscapes.
The programme has been developed within the framework of the VISIT_RIO_MINHO_PLUS project, co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Spain–Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2021-2027. It forms part of the work carried out by EGTC Rio Minho to develop joint tourism products and consolidate the territory as an integrated, sustainable and distinctive destination.
The presentation featured Lorena Soto, Councillor for Culture of Salvaterra de Miño Town Council; Luis Ulloa, Project Technician at EGTC Rio Minho; and Roberto J. Álvarez Carrero, Deputy Director of EGTC Rio Minho and Deputy for Cross-border Cooperation and Institutional Relations at the Provincial Council of Pontevedra.
During the presentation, the ten routes scheduled to take place in July and September were unveiled. Together, they cover the 26 municipalities that make up the EGTC Rio Minho territory. The programme includes walking, cycling and coach-based experiences, with itineraries centred on historical heritage, fortifications, landscapes, thermal sites and local traditions.
The experiences have been designed around the tourism products “Nature and Landscape” and “Historical Heritage and Fortifications”, developed by EGTC Rio Minho.
The programme begins this weekend with two experiences dedicated to the territory’s fortified heritage. On Saturday, 11 July, the “Atlantic Fortresses” route will take participants through A Guarda, O Rosal, Oia, Tomiño and Vila Nova de Cerveira. On Sunday, 12 July, the “Upper Minho Fortresses” experience will connect Salvaterra de Miño, Monção, Valença and Tui.
These activities complement the “Vive o Rio Minho ao Máximo” programme, launched on 29 June with the first water-based experiences on the River Minho. The programme includes 26 water-based activities across different parts of the territory and offers 300 places, including 100 reserved for tourism professionals and 200 for the general public.
Taken together, both initiatives aim to bring residents and visitors closer to the territory’s natural, cultural and historical assets, support local tourism operators and promote new ways of discovering Rio Minho and its surroundings.
The activities form part of the VISIT_RIO_MINHO_PLUS strategy to consolidate Rio Minho as a cross-border tourism destination through a diversified, coordinated and audience-oriented offer.
