The EGTC Rio Minho has just met to renew the management positions of the group’s Coordinating Council as established in its statutes.
The renewal of positions takes place every two years, with the director and vice-director being elected alternately by the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho and the Provincial Council of Pontevedra.
On this occasion, the President of the Municipal Chamber of Valença, José Manuel Vaz Carpinteira, assumes the position of Director and, in the same way, Roberto Álvarez Carrero, Mayor of the municipality of A Guarda, will hold the position of Vice-Director.
In this way, José Manuel Vaz Carpinteira is now the Director of the Coordinating Council and the current Provincial Deputy for Cross-Border Cooperation and Institutional Relations and Mayor of A Guarda, Roberto José Álvarez Carrero, the new Vice-Director. The vocal positions are occupied by the Mayor of Ponteareas, María Nava Castro Domínguez and the President of the Municipal Chamber of Vilanova de Cerveira, Rui Pedro Teixeira Ferreira.
José Manuel Vaz Carpinteira said that “the mandate of Director of the Rio Minho EGTC that begins now is an honour, and, at the same time, a responsibility, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of friendship that unite the municipalities on both sides of the Minho”.
Thus, Carpinteira predicted that “it will be a challenging period to take advantage of the financing opportunities of the Spain-Portugal Interreg, promoting projects that are decisive for cross-border cooperation and the development of our region”.
Furthermore, the new Director insisted that “here we share daily with European values in terms of established socio-economic relations and the EGTC Rio Minho will always be an entity that is at the forefront of the promotion of territorial cohesion policies in the cross-border field”.
